History of Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC)
Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha conceived of India’s nuclear program.
In 1945, Dr. Bhabha created the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) to conduct nuclear scientific research.
To intensify the endeavor to use nuclear energy for the benefit of the nation, Dr. Bhabha founded the Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET) in January 1954 for a multidisciplinary research program critical to India’s ambitious nuclear program.
Following Bhabha’s death in 1966, AEET was renamed Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
